The cooperative shooter Warhammer: Vermintide 2 has successfully started. Over half a million game copies were sold in the first 4 days after the release. The first part of the game reached this figure in 6 months of sales.
At the moment, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 ranks second in the Steam sales ranking, second only to PUBG.
According to Fatshark CEO Martin Wahlund, the project was created and published at the studio’s own expense.
Thanks to this, the Fatshark team was able to spend as much time on the development of Warhammer: Vermintide 2 as it saw fit, since no one adjusted them to the release date.
“Over the years, Games Workshop [the copyright holder of the Warhammer universe] has realized that good games under their license come out only when developers are given enough time. A premature release can completely destroy a project that only needed a couple of months to bring it to mind,” Vahlund said.
Warhammer: Vermintide 2 resembles the famous Left 4 Dead multiplayer project from Valve, transferred to the setting of the fantasy universe of the Games Workshop company and supplemented with role-playing elements.
Although the worlds of Warhammer Fantasy Battles and Warhammer 40,000 are well known and popular, game projects based on their motives often do not meet the expectations of gamers.
A month ago, Relic studio announced the termination of support for the Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War III real-time strategy, although less than a year has passed since its release. The title disappointed gamers so much that the creators decided not to waste time on a failed game and not try to revive the project, which most players left.
