Unity will release a free game on Steam. It’s called Gigaya. It is designed to help developers understand the engine, and companies understand how to simplify the life of game teams.
Gigaya was announced at the GDC 2022 conference. Its creators set a goal to demonstrate how different Unity systems work and interact using the example of a specific game.
The demo is being developed using all the tools and capabilities of this engine. The company hopes to inspire independent developers with its example.
15 people work on Gigaya. These are developers from Unity’s core engineering group who took on different production roles in the process of creating the game. Someone remained a programmer, someone took on the duties of an artist, someone a game designer, and so on.
“This approach to the creation of the project allowed us to understand what indie and medium–sized studios are facing when trying to release a successful game,” the company explains.

Gigaya is scheduled for release in 2022.
The game, as well as assets and its source code, will be available to all Unity and Steam users. According to the authors of the engine, developers will be able to both protect themselves from possible errors and find more relevant solutions to existing problems.
“We launched the game on Steam not for the sake of competition, but to understand what problems developers are facing. Our primary goal is to solve the existing difficulties and pump up the developers,” Unity notes.
