Google has released a beta version of the plugin for Unity. With the help of the latter, it is possible to stream a mobile game on Chromecast / TV when using a smartphone / tablet as a full-fledged gamepad with a separate UI.

The plugin that recently appeared in the Asset Store is called Google Cast Remote Display Plugin. In fact, the main thing he does is painlessly implement support for the Cast Remote Display SDK, released earlier, in Unity games.

The latter, we recall, was just the Google API that allows streaming itself from a mobile gadget to any receiver, like Chromecast (or some Smart TVs).

At the same time, the mentioned API has as many as two key features. Firstly, the rendering can be carried out on the receiver itself. Secondly, the image on the transmitting device may differ from what is shown by the receiver.

In other words, when streaming, it is possible that one screen will be displayed on the TV screen (for example, a game scene with information about the amount of life), and another (sticks and keys) will be displayed on the screen of a mobile device.

That is, in the case of the Google Cast Remote Display Plugin, we are talking not just about the appearance of convenient tools for implementing game support from a mobile device (both Android and iOS) on a TV, but also about another additional step towards the future, in which mobile gadgets will take the place of consoles.

You can download the plugin here.

The guide for its implementation is just below.
