A new free LDtk level editor has appeared on the web. Its author is the creator of Dead Cells. The project is open source and is aimed primarily at indie developers.Attention to LDtk was recently drawn to the publication 80 Level, and for the first time the developer presented his project back in September.
I’m currently working on LEd, an open-source 2D level editor for #indie #gamedev community. It features auto-layers, entities, modern UI and many many quality of life details. My goal: having all core features and make them right https://t.co/qUmFzh1i9E Please share :) pic.twitter.com/rku9irvsXd
— Sébastien |Deepnight Games (@deepnightfr) September 24, 2020″My goal is to provide developers with an editor that has all the important basic functions, and implement them at a new level, with a modern user interface and interaction,” explains Sebastian Bénard (Sébastien Bénard) the reason for creating LDtk.
Among the main functions of the editor, which is developed on Haxe, the developer highlights:
- modern interface with an emphasis on ease of use;The toolkit is compatible with all programming languages (not just Haxe);
- JSON support: files can be easily converted to third-party game engines;
- automatic layers that require the developer to create only a map with collision boundaries — all textures, grass and other small details will be drawn automatically;
- HTML5 support;
- the ability to create and customize entities (entities) — for example, the health of the character.
- In the future, Benard plans to add parallax support to LDtk, an autotailing system, a world editor (in fact, we are talking about a tool for scaling previews) and much more.
LDtk is now available on the project’s website.
