Google has shown ARCore, a devkit designed to create augmented reality applications for Android.
ARCore is still available to developers in a preview version. The editor contains tools for tracking movements, detecting light sources, and determining the size and location of flat surfaces such as floors, ceilings, or tables.
“ARCore allows you to add virtual objects to real space. It can be a biography of the artist next to his painting or a sleeping kitten. You will be able to walk around the room and look at these objects from any angle, and even if you leave and return to the room again, the objects will remain in their places,” Google said.
ARCore supports development for Google Pixel, Pixel XL and Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphones, and also works with engines such as Unity and Unreal Engine.
