A lecture by Supercell game designer Antti Summala appeared on the web. He talked about creating control schemes and progression in games using the example of Brawl Stars.

Brawl Stars is the latest Supercell product released. Throughout the entire softlonch, which lasted from June 2017, the team made global changes to it several times so that the project reached the target metrics. Summala told how the team had redone the progression system twice. Also, according to him, after many iterations, the control system in Brawl Stars did not come out as originally planned. But the current one has clearly benefited the game.

By its metrics, Brawl Stars still falls short of such studio hits as Clash of Clans and Clash Royale. But still, in six months after the release, she earned $ 275 million.

Summala spoke in detail about all the iterations of Brawl Stars during the softlonch period and about the reaction of the community to updates. He also explained why Canada and the iOS platform were chosen for the Brawl Stars softlock.

The full video of Summala’s performance can be viewed for free on the official GDC Vault YouTube channel.
