The third is superfluous. Autodesk has decided to discontinue support and development of the Stingray game engine. The company explained this decision by unwillingness to compete with Unity and Unreal Engine.

According to Autodesk, Unity and Unreal Engine have become the standard of game development. The company wants to cooperate with their authors, and not waste energy on rivalry.

Although Stingray will cease to exist and be updated as a separate software product, Autodesk customers will be able to receive it when subscribing to the Maya LT 3D Editor.

Autodesk will stop subscribing to Stingray from January 7, 2018.

Autodesk Stingray is a renamed Bitsquid engine that Autodesk acquired in 2014 from independent Swedish developers. A number of titles were created on Stingray, including the cooperative shooter Warhammer: End Times — Vermintide.
