Amazon Internet Corporation has launched the Amazon Sumerian platform for creating three-dimensional applications for VR and AR devices.
In Amazon Sumerian, you can model three-dimensional spaces and populate them with NPCs who will interact with the user: talk about the content of the application, guide, and so on.
“You can create a virtual classroom that will allow you to train new employees around the world or create an environment for a virtual tour,” is how Amazon describes Sumerian’s capabilities on the platform page.
According to the creators, working with Sumerian does not require deep knowledge in three-dimensional modeling and programming. Users don’t have to download anything — the editor is available in the browser.
Ready-made applications can run on HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Google Daydream and browsers with support for 3D rendering technology WebGL or WebVR.
Using Amazon Sumerian is free, but developers will have to pay for hosting their three-dimensional spaces.
