The Russian UNIGINE engine has received a large-scale update. The developers have added new features to it, which can also be used for game development. Among them are updated clouds and a new smoothing technology.
You can find out more about all the changes to UNIGINE in version 2.13 on the engine’s website, and below you can get acquainted with the main innovations of this release:
- GPU-lightmapper, which allows you to bake global lighting;
- improved volumetric 3D clouds with light scattering, noise reduction and accurate layer sorting;
- new anti-aliasing technology with subpixel reconstruction (SRAA), which restores fine details of the image;
- adaptive geometry tessellation, which allows subdividing low-poly objects into smaller grids to increase overall detail;
- Free library of 3D scans: scans of rocks, trees and other real-world objects.
UNIGINE has been on the market for 15 years and is used both for scientific research and virtual reality systems, and for game development. Projects such as the Oil Rush strategy and the Cradle quest from the Ukrainian studio Flying Cafe for Semianimals were released on this engine.
In April of this year, the developers released a free Community version of the engine, which can be used by all users whose income does not exceed $ 100 thousand per year.
