The solitaire/mahjong subcategory is rarely mentioned. The casual direction dedicated to collecting cards/knuckles seems to be underestimated. At the same time, it performs well in commercial terms, as the Sensor Tower analytical company clearly shows in the latest study.
Solitaire TriPeaks
Analysts of the service call solitaire/mahjong one of the four subcategories of so-called board games in mobile.
And it is the most earning in the niche in the United States: solitaire/mahjong accounts for 45% of the local revenue of mobile board games.
The main box office hits of the niche:
- Solitaire Grand Harvest by Supertreat;
- Solitaire TriPeaks from GSN.
We are talking about the amount of $ 310 million. The figure can be called outstanding, since the annual revenue growth of the subcategory was 44%. A third of the subcategory’s earnings come from the already mentioned Solitaire Grand Harvest.
In terms of downloads, solitaire/mahjong is also in the first place in the niche of desktop projects. They account for 37% of the downloads of the latter — 76.8 million. Here, by the way, there was no annual growth, as well as in general in the local niche (it fell by 12%).
Dynamics of revenue and downloads of board games
By the way, despite the lack of much public attention (at the media level) to the niche, investors and venture capital companies are closely watching solitaire /mahjong.
For example, all the same Solitaire Grand Harvest and Solitaire TriPeaks in 2019 passed through M&A. The developers were bought by Playtika first, Sony invested in the second.
