Mobile action games were the fastest-growing genre at the box office in the United States, according to analysts at Sensor Tower. In the first half of 2021, their total revenue jumped by half. More than a third of the amount was generated by Genshin Impact.

- in the first half of the year, mobile action games earned a total of $435.7 million, which is 103.8% more than the results at the same time in 2020. The growth rates of other genres were much more modest.
- the second fastest growth rate was hyper-casual games — 60.4%. Their income reached $59 million. The third place was taken by board games, which increased by 41.7% year-on-year to $389 million;
- Sensor Tower analysts called Genshin Impact the most monetary action game – gamers spent $174 million in it for the first half of the year. The top three highest-grossing games also included Marvel: Contest of Champions and Dragon Ball Legends;
- but things were not so good with downloads. During the half-year, the number of installations in all genres decreased. For action projects, they fell by 15.1% compared to the first half of 2020. However, it’s not as much as most genres;
- shooters (37.8%), casinos (36.9%) and puzzles (22.8%) had the biggest drop in downloads. The strategies suffered the least — their downloads decreased by 4.4%.
