DeltaDNA analyst Isaac Roseboom shared on the company’s blog how the monetization indicators of games on “old” smartphones differ from games on more modern devices. We publish a retelling of the text.

For this study, DeltaDNA analyzed the performance of 300-plus games.

And here are the patterns we managed to find.

iPhone Statistics

The older the device, the less likely it is that the player will spend money in the game. iPhone 6 owners were 2.5 times more likely to become paying users than iPhone 4 owners.

Android data is harder to track due to device fragmentation. DeltaDNA has studied the statistics on the Samsung S line. They, according to Rosenbum, have recently been going head-to-head with the iPhone in the smartphone race.

User conversion on S2 models is 0.8%, and on S5 – 2.6%. That is, the dynamics are almost the same as with the iPhone. The “older” the phone, the more reluctant the player is to spend money.

The conclusions, according to the analyst DeltaDNA, are ambiguous. The difference in conversion can be explained by very simple reasons – if the device is “old”, then its owner has less money. Or is it due to the fact that developers do not adapt new games to the requirements of “old” devices.
