Russia has a “special way”. This conclusion can be made by reviewing the latest App Annie data. The analytical company reports that after the introduction of a self-isolation regime in the country, downloads of mobile games in the country increased by only a few percent. But the installations of business applications jumped sharply – almost twice.
In the first week of April (when quarantine began in Russia), game downloads increased by 7% relative to the average number of weekly downloads in January. The segment of entertainment programs has grown a little more significantly — by 20%. At the same time, other types of applications showed more serious growth rates. For comparison, business applications began to download 80% more actively, and educational applications — by 65%.
Important: relative to March, game downloads in Russia did not increase at all. For comparison, in Europe, after the introduction of a period of self—isolation, on the contrary, there was a serious increase — about 12%, as previously reported by another analytical company – Sensor Tower.
About self-isolation in Russia
On March 25, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin announced a non-working week in the period from March 30 to April 5. He recommended that all enterprises and organizations suspend work, but keep salaries for employees. Separately, it was noted that the holidays do not apply to medical, state, financial organizations, law enforcement agencies, as well as, as noted in the appeal, “shops”.
On March 29, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced the introduction of a self-isolation regime in the capital. After that, a similar regime was announced in other regions of the country. However, not all of them. In the Yaroslavl, Tver and Tula regions, as well as in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, it does not officially operate.
On April 2, the non-working period was extended until April 30. According to RBC sources, now the federal authorities are considering several scenarios for extending the self-isolation regime. In particular, they say that it may drag on until June 1.
