A few years ago, the indie apocalypse almost turned Steam into a “garbage dump”. Valve managed to defeat the invasion of low-quality games, while continuing to let everyone into its store. However, due to the new Steam algorithms, small titles actually have no place left on the site. Marketing consultant Chris Zukowski told about this problem in his material for the website How To Market A Game.

Mike Rose, founder of the independent game publisher No more robots, believes that many indie developers expect the impossible from the sales of their games on Steam. For example, they seriously expect to sell 1.3 million copies in the first month.

Indie studio Yacht Club Games offered its own version of the fight against the indie apocalypse. She raised the price tag for her game on all platforms, and at the same time went to the Nintendo Switch. Thanks to this, the company earned a record amount for Shovel Knight in 2017 in the entire history of its sales.
