We return to the section "Wanted: Investor/Publisher." This time with a project from a solo developer working on a turn-based fantasy strategy game called AdepT.

If you're an indie developer, ready to talk about your project, and also looking for investments, a publisher, or someone to join your team, feel free to write to us in this section on Telegram — @App2Top_bot.

About the Team

Denis Kadykov

My name is Denis Kadykov, and I am the project author, the main game designer, programmer, and art lead all rolled into one.

My commercial development experience includes:

  • developing Flash games for gaming portals and selling them on FGL (advertising banners inside the games plus integrated mochiADS);
  • since 2013, I've worked as a programmer on mobile games. Often, I also supervised artists and 3D modelers.

About the Project

The game AdepT is something between HMM3 and Disciples 2. It offers a true dark fantasy atmosphere without stereotypical characters. It features a mature storyline with limited magic in the game's world.

What is already done:

  • map editor;
  • scenario selection;
  • map navigation;
  • resource gathering;
  • boarding a ship;
  • attacking field armies;
  • army recruitment;
  • army upgrades;
  • combat (without spells or abilities).

What remains to be done:

  • development of the company storylines;
    functionality of some objects on the map;
  • level design of the maps;
  • balance;
  • graphics effects for attacks and abilities;
  • asset overhaul;
  • ability functionality;
  • purchasing scrolls;
  • saving and loading;
  • music and sound effects.

With proper funding, the development timeline is estimated to be two years from the current state of the project.

About the Gameplay/Mechanics

The mechanics include:

  • turn-based battles similar to JRPGs, with the ability to swap characters in the vanguard;
  • global maps with cities, resources, and field armies (characteristic of the genre);
  • resource accumulation with several army upgrades.

The game design is focused on reducing the entry barrier for players unfamiliar with the genre, though the main priority remains the "old guard" eagerly awaiting similar games.

Notable features include:

  • good readability of the global map and the battle screen;
  • graphics that are close to realistic yet slightly stylized, designed to immerse the player and convey the dreary and oppressive atmosphere of the game world;
  • reduced micromanagement typical of the genre;
  • a relatively small number of armies with properties that keep the game sufficiently deep;
  • an uncluttered interface.

About the Target Audience

In this genre, there is almost no competition due to the complexity of development and its specificity. Players will not abandon HoMM3, but they'd be happy to divert their attention for a few weeks.

The few games that emerge in this niche do not create oversaturation. "HoMM Clones" collections hardly change year after year. The target audience is primarily those familiar with the genre.

About the Business Model

The game will be released as a premium title on Steam.

It's controller-friendly by design, as the hexes in my project are relatively large compared to similar elements in other games, and the "construction" with field armies and points of interest is very dense. However, I haven't considered consoles yet.

Who Am I Looking For?

I am looking for an investor. The investor is needed to reduce the development timeframe.

The project was initially planned so that my skills could suffice to complete it solo (except for multiplayer, which I do not plan to include, and music).

The development has reached a stage where the main game elements are formed and the game can be filled with content. By hiring people for different parts of the development, I could significantly reduce the time to release.
