Against the background of the situation in Ukraine, popular gaming stores have stopped accepting cards of some Russian banks that have fallen under sanctions. Different users have problems with payment in Steam, GOG, Nintendo eShop and a number of other stores. In the case of Steam, most users note the inability to withdraw funds from VTB cards.

Problems have also arisen with some other banks that have been sanctioned.

In case of failure of the operation, Steam shows the following comment: “The purchase is not completed. The company that issued your bank card declined the request.”

At the same time, some users have no problems with paying on Steam yet. We are talking, among other things, about purchases with the help of Sber cards. Most of the bounce reports are related specifically to VTB.

As one of the users of the DTF portal suggested, an error may also occur in the case of an incorrectly entered billing address in the information about the card linked to Steam. This is the address to which the bank card was issued.

We also tried making a few purchases on Steam. The payment was successfully made with Tinkoff bank cards (not yet sanctioned) and Sberbank — both Mastercard. The billing address was filled in correctly. However, it is unknown whether this possibility will remain in the future.

GOG users also have problems with payment. For example, we were unable to make a purchase using the same Tinkoff and Sber cards.

In this case, the CD Projekt store showed the following message: “The payment attempt was banned by the bank because they need confirmation or additional information from you.”

update: as GOG technical support clarified, the store stopped accepting payments in rubles due to the unstable situation with the Russian currency. Therefore, from March 1, users need to switch the currency to dollars. Regional prices will remain at the same time — GOG is still calculating them at a price of 85 rubles per dollar.

We also checked the ability to make purchases in the App Store — the debit of funds from the Sberbank card was successful. What happens to other banks is still unclear.

So far, it is difficult to talk about the system problem of payment in console stores. There have been no mass reports about the inability to make purchases in the Xbox store yet. We also managed to make a purchase in the PS Store (“Tinkoff”, Visa).

However, Nintendo technical support directly reported that the payment system used in the eShop suspended the processing of transactions in Russian rubles. “In this regard, payments in the Russian Nintendo eShop are currently impossible,” the statement said.

The only option in this case is to replenish the balance of the game account using payment cards via Qiwi.

In the screenshot above, the user says that it is impossible to debit funds from VTB, Sberbank and Yumopeu cards.

Recall that VTB, Sberbank, Promsvyazbank, Alfa-Bank, Rosselkhoznadzor, Otkritie and a number of other banks have already been sanctioned. They will be blocked from all American assets and banned from cooperating with counterparties from the United States. Also, Western countries have agreed to disconnect the listed banks from SWIFT.

In addition, Mastercard has disconnected several Russian banks from its system. It will be impossible to pay with their cards abroad and in foreign online stores. Also today it became known that the sanctioned banks will no longer be able to issue new Visa and Mastercard cards.
