On September 16, the world release of the new version of iOS took place. The way it went, caused dissatisfaction among some developers. Apple didn’t give much time to prepare for the new mobile OS.

The story is as follows: as a rule, the launch of a new version of iOS in wide access takes place a few days after its detailed presentation to the general public (and not to developers, as is the case with WWDC). For example, iOS 13 was released nine days after the presentation, iOS 12 — four days later, iOS 11 was also released four days after the show.

The scenario with the advent of iOS 14 turned out to be different. On September 15, the operating system was shown, and on September 16 it became available for download to everyone. For many teams, this turned out to be an unpleasant surprise: they were given the final build of the system not in a week, but in a day.

During this period, not everyone can have time to check the performance of their applications on the new OS. Of course, there were beta versions of iOS, which were released with a certain frequency since July. However, it must be remembered that any betas are unstable, something may not be in them, it is not always possible to test the operation of programs with them.

But this, as one of the developers explained to us, is only part of the problem. Even if the team managed to test the application and remove all critical bugs from it in a couple of hours, it will not be possible to update it quickly. The reason is obvious: the apruv of any update — especially when everyone is in a hurry to roll out a new version of the program or game — from the editorial office of the App Store can take more than a day.

So the developers are faced with a situation in which their applications from a part of the audience that switched to iOS 14 may either not work at all or work with errors. The latter could potentially lead to a downgrade of applications, and then — to the loss of positions in search results.

Therefore, there is nothing surprising in the large number of angry comments from iOS developers. MacWorld cites some of them on its pages. For example, @JPEGuin, the creator of the AviaryTheApp app, sadly writes: “Without warning, Apple randomly throws out iOS 14 the next day. Very much in the spirit of the 2020 brand.”

Some teams even recommend users to refrain from installing a new OS.
