Sony is disappointed with the sales of PlayStation VR (PSVR) virtual reality systems and has thought about alternative markets for the technology — such as local gaming halls.

This is stated in the Wall Street Journal publication. According to the business publication, last month Sony created a department for working with VR entertainment platforms.

Sony has no plans to open its own attractions and hopes to cooperate with arcade halls, theme parks and so on.

Sony wants to introduce PSVR to a wide audience at the expense of the platforms. So people will be able to get a full-fledged VR experience for little money before spending on a home version of the VR system.

Despite Sony’s skepticism about the success of PSVR, in 2016 the company sold 745 thousand sets of this system, taking second place in the world in this indicator and second only to Samsung Gear VR.
