The PlayStation 4 console has entered the final phase of its life cycle. This was announced by the president of Sony Interactive Entertainment John Kodera at a reporting meeting with investors.

Kodera did not specify when exactly the company plans to release a new generation of PlayStation. He noted that PlayStation 4 sales will decline until March 2021, but this drop is the key to future recovery.

In 2018, SIE expects to sell 16 million PlayStation 4 — 3 million less than a year earlier. Sony intends to compensate for the expected decline in console sales by increasing revenue from the PlayStation Plus gaming service.

In addition, Sony does not intend to reduce the development of new titles for the platform. On the contrary, Kodera promised players more fresh franchises and new parts for existing game series.

John Kodera also reported an increase in sales of PlayStation VR virtual reality systems, which, however, are not being implemented as well as Sony would like.

Another problematic area is video game streaming. The development of its own streaming platform PlayStation Vue is being slowed down due to strong competition with existing game broadcast services.
