The release of the Nintendo Switch in March of this year was the best console launch in the history of Nintendo.

According to the analytical company NPD, 906 thousand consoles were sold in the world during the first month of spring.

For comparison, the world has sold more than 2 million Xbox One in 18 days, and Sony has sold 2.1 million PlayStation 4 in 14 days since launch. 3.19 million Nintendo Wii sold in the last quarter of 2006.

In addition, Nintendo announced that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has sold 1.3 million copies in the US: 925 thousand for Switch and about 460 thousand versions for Wii U. Breath of the Wild also showed the best starting sales in the history of Nintendo, as a Zelda series game and as a Nintendo title in general.

Interestingly, users bought more of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Switch than the consoles themselves. This can be explained by the fact that someone purchased two versions of the new Zelda – for the collection and for the game.

Nintendo has promised to announce official sales figures in its financial earnings report on April 27.
