John Carmack presented a software solution that allows you to increase the resolution in the Oculus Home content management shell for the Gear VR platform.
Thanks to a new image processing algorithm on the smartphone screen and the use of certain “cylindrical layers” that optimize the use of display pixels, it was possible to increase the vertical resolution of the visible image from 400 to 600 pixels.
Gear VR is currently the only virtual reality system using this technology, but in the future it may be extended to other VR platforms.
