The reasons are called different. According to some users, the OS update takes up too much space – usually up to 5.7 GB. Reports of problems in the new iOS also have a negative impact.
Apple has collected analytics based on how many customers in the App Store use the new operating system. As of September 21, they turned out to be slightly less than half of the total number – 46%. By October 5, the situation had improved slightly – 47% had updated their OS to the latest modification.
Fiksu, a data collection and analysis service, drew conclusions based on its own user base. According to his calculations, 20 days after the release, only 38% of users switched to iOS 8.
For comparison: over the same period of time, 59% of owners of Apple devices managed to switch to iOS 7, and 58% to iOS 6.
The conclusion is obvious: in the next six months, iOS developers will have to deal with fragmentation caused not only by an increased variety of hardware types, but also operating systems.
