Steam is the most popular gaming platform of the last two years. This conclusion was reached by the PR manager of TweakTown, who compared the MAU of four large console and desktop platforms.
Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox Live and PS Network were compared.
- Until 2020, PS Network was the leader in terms of monthly active audience. But not too confident. Already in 2018 (earlier figures are not indicated in the report), it was clear that Steam could soon displace the Sony platform. For comparison: MAU PS Network in 2018 was 98 million people, and MAU Steam — 90 million people.
- As for 2021, on average, 132 million people used Steam every month. This is 21 million more than PS Network.
- Xbox Live was third in the average MAU last year — 100 million people. Epic Games Store rounded out the top four, reaching a monthly active audience of 62 million people.
- Note that in the future, Xbox Live can also overtake the PS Network, since every year the gap between them is narrowing. For example, if in 2018 Xbox Live lagged by 39 million, then in 2021 — only by 11 million.
