Another piece of news from China. The local PlayStation Store has suspended operations due to security breaches. It is unclear when the site will open again.

Earlier, information appeared on social networks that Chinese PS players were able to download games to their consoles without a license. These titles could contain content prohibited by the Chinese regulator (violence, blood, nudity, political topics, etc.).

According to Abacus News, this became possible thanks to a certain “backdoor” in the Sony store. A number of pirates on the web offer assistance in circumventing restrictions and downloading games from international servers for less than $5.

After the information about illegal downloads appeared, the Chinese PS Store took a break. It plans to strengthen the security system. Sony does not comment on whether this is due to the circumvention of the license ban by the players.

The company’s message on Weibo does not specify when the platform will reopen to buyers.

Recall that special stores are being opened in China for the sale of approved games, whose content is strictly regulated. For example, a local version of Steam is being prepared for launch. So far, we know about 40 titles approved for Steam China.
