The crowdfunding platform Kickstarter marked the milestone of 10 thousand sponsored gaming projects.
Over the 8 years of the service’s existence, 2.46 million people participated in the campaigns, who transferred $ 613 million to the developers. Moreover, 1.45 million transferred money to the games repeatedly.
The first game project on Kickstarter is considered to be Crossword Puzzles!. It appeared the day after the launch of the platform in 2009. The author of the project was crossword compiler Eric Berlin, who wanted to create a selection of nine interconnected crosswords. His dream came true — the campaign raised $2.2 thousand instead of the original $ 1.5, 163 people participated in it.
A few years later, game projects began to collect millions of dollars, they were supported by tens of thousands of people. So Wasteland 2 from Brian Fargo’s studio inXile Entertainment in 2013 financed 61,290 participants in the amount of $2.9 million.
