Last year, VK announced ambitious plans to transform VK Play into the "one-stop entry point for gamers in Russia." At that time, it started selling Steam keys on the platform and soon allowed users to add funds to their Steam wallets. Now VK Play has taken it a step further.
The VK Play team announced that starting today, users of the platform can add games purchased on Steam to their library and launch them through the VK Play launcher.
"We are creating the most convenient environment for users, where all their games are readily accessible. The library integration is a logical step in the development of our ecosystem. We're not just adding a launch feature; we're laying the groundwork for future enhancements, ranging from unified statistics to seamless purchasing," commented Alexander Mikheev, head of VK Play, on the innovation.
VK Play reported their intention to not only transfer Steam games to the platform over time but also to include information on played hours and achievements. Additionally, VK Play will feature pages with news from Steam. This is expected to happen in the "near future," though no specific timeline was provided.
In the latest financial report, VK reported that by the end of September, VK Play had 58.6 million registered accounts, with 12.8 million people using the store monthly.
