The Twitch stream platform has begun beta testing of a monetization system that will reward both streamers and developers of Twitch Extensions interactive add-ons.
The new system uses the platform’s virtual currency — Bits.
Until recently, the bits were used only to support the streamer. The viewer could send the amount of bits to the author of the broadcast and get access to special emojis for this.
Twitch has now implemented bit support in 28 add-ons. Among them are mini-games, programs for collecting game statistics, additional chat options, and so on. Here is the full list.
80% of the spent bits will be received by the author of the broadcast, and 20% will go to the developer of the add-on.
Bits are sold in the Twitch store for real money at the rate of 1 bit — $ 0.01.
Recall that Twitch Extensions are small programs that run together with the broadcast and allow viewers to interact with the streamer.
Some Extensions show the characteristics of items in the streamer’s inventory, others allow you to vote for his further actions, and so on.
