Good Games Group announced a deal with the media conglomerate Ziff Davis, the parent company of the gaming platform Humble Bundle. They now own the entire publishing portfolio of games released under the Humble Games label.
Specifically, Good Games Group acquired publishing rights to Slay the Spire, Unpacking, A Hat in Time, Wizard of Legend, and Forager.
The financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed, but in an interview with GamesIndustry, the leaders of Good Games Group stated that "both parties are satisfied." They added that the decision to finalize the deal was a natural step for their company. It's not surprising, considering the founders of Good Games Group previously worked with the Humble Games team.
An interesting point: the connection between Good Games Group and Humble Games is not limited to the founders' previous employment. In 2024, Humble Games faced the brink of closure. It then underwent a major restructuring, reportedly laying off all employees, shortly after which Good Games Group was founded. A few months following these business upheavals, Humble Games approached Good Games Group for assistance in further support of published games, and the companies collaborated for a significant time. What will happen with Humble Games now remains unclear.
The deal with Ziff Davis is not the only one Good Games Group has made recently. Simultaneously, the company announced the acquisition of the game portfolio from Firestoke, which closed last year. Firestoke had released titles such as Falling Out, Bish Bash Bots, and It’s Only Money.
After all these acquisitions, Good Games Group decided to rebrand itself. It has renamed itself Balor Games and declared that it will focus on publishing high-quality indie games or so-called III games.
