The Dutch government has supported the proposal to completely ban loot boxes in the country. Previously, only loot boxes that can be sold for real money were banned in the country.

The ban has not yet entered into force. It is not known when it will take effect.

In the Netherlands, they began to actively oppose loot boxes in July 2022. Then representatives of six political parties introduced a bill to ban gambling mechanics, including loot boxes, in video games. A year later, on June 29, 2023, Mickey Adriaansens, the Minister of Economy and Climate Policy of the Netherlands, called for banning loot boxes.
