A studio with quite an unusual name—//18.bravo—has appeared in the gaming market.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
The new studio was founded by industry veteran Robert Bowling. Many remember him from his work at Infinity Ward, where he long served as a creative strategist and worked on the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trilogy. Later, Bowling was part of teams at Humble Bundle, Electronic Arts, Midnight Society, and several other companies before deciding to launch //18.bravo.
According to Bowling, //18.bravo's debut game will be a first-person shooter featuring both a single-player story campaign and a multiplayer mode. Despite having an online component, the studio does not plan to develop the project as a live service.
Notably, Bowling himself considers live-service games a scourge of the industry. In his opinion, they are overly commercialized and have "ruined" many developers. In contrast, his studio aims to create games that don't need constant new content updates and will always be available to gamers, facilitated by the use of P2P architecture.
//18.bravo generally intends to challenge many accepted practices within the gaming industry. For instance, it plans to share a portion of the games' profits with all its employees, even freelancers. If //18.bravo ever shuts down, it will release all the code and assets of its projects to the public.
//18.bravo is based in California. It is unknown how many people currently work there.
