The exact number of people it comprises now is undisclosed.
This information was shared by XBOX head Asha Sharma on her social media account on X. She clarified that the growth is in reference to the fiscal year 2026, from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.
Apparently, Sharma is pleased with the increase in audience size. However, she acknowledged that the influx of new gamers did not translate into financial growth. On the contrary, the latest report reveals that Microsoft's gaming division's annual revenue declined by 7% to $21.79 billion. Considering all this, Sharma intends to adjust XBOX's business strategy.
“We need to bridge the gap [between the audience and finances] by investing in what players value. This will take time, but we expect to return to growth by the end of fiscal 2027,” added the head of XBOX.
Previously, Sharma had mentioned that XBOX’s focus on cross-platform and Game Pass hadn't fully paid off. Therefore, Microsoft now plans to pay more attention to exclusives and its own consoles.
