The analytics company Sensor Tower released a report on the mobile app market based on the results of the second quarter of 2024. We have selected the main findings related to games.

  • Gamers worldwide spent $19.7 billion on mobile games for the quarter, 4% more than a year ago.
  • Mobile game downloads dropped by 6.4% to 12.6 billion. This is the lowest level since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • For the first time since 2017, RPG was not the highest-grossing genre. This time, the title went to strategy games, with a total quarterly revenue of $4.15 billion (+12%). The RPG genre fell to second place ($4.14 billion, -15%), and puzzle games ranked third ($2.89 billion, +12%).
  • The top three genres by downloads were arcade games (2.19 billion downloads, -16%), puzzle games (1.7 billion downloads, -10%), and simulators (1.48 billion downloads, +3%).
  • The highest-grossing game, as in the previous quarter, was MONOPOLY GO!. Dungeon & Fighter Mobile also made it into the top 10, climbing 421 spots in the rankings thanks to its release in China.
  • Garena Free Fire once again held the top spot for the most downloaded games.
