Predictably, the main market for the game is Japan, where Pokémon TCG Pocket accounted for 41.5% of the revenue. The top regions also include the USA (21.7%), France (7.3%), Taiwan (4.1%), Germany (3.4%), and South Korea (3.2%).
According to analysts’ estimates, Pokémon TCG Pocket has reached 40 million downloads to date. This is lower than the official figures. As of December 12, The Pokémon Company announced that the game had surpassed 60 million downloads.
Analysts specifically examined the performance of Pokémon TCG Pocket in the South Korean market. Their calculations indicate that residents of the country have downloaded the new title more times than any other mobile game in the Pokémon franchise throughout 2024. It even surpassed the hit Pokémon GO in annual downloads. Additionally, it ranked second in the annual top charts for revenue and number of daily active users among franchise games. This is despite Pokémon TCG Pocket launching later in the year, on October 30, 2024, unlike Pokémon GO, Pokémon UNITE, Pokémon Sleep, and other projects.
Reports indicate that 48% of the Pokémon TCG Pocket audience in South Korea is aged 25-34, while 34.5% of players are aged 18-24.
Analysts believe that Pokémon TCG Pocket owes its success to both the overall popularity of the Pokémon franchise and the physical card game of the same name, which it is a virtual version of. The developers have sparked nostalgia among longtime fans while simultaneously attracting newcomers. They slightly simplified the game's rules for the latter, easing the entry barriers.
