Sensor Tower released a report on the state of the mobile gaming market in Southeast Asia for the first half of 2024. Here are the numbers and trends.
Pizza Ready!
- The mobile game market saw an increase in downloads, surpassing 4.2 billion, with 91% originating from Google Play. This is a 3.4% increase compared to the previous year.
- Indonesia led in download volume, accounting for 41% of the total, with downloads in the country growing by more than 15% compared to the previous period.
- Revenue from mobile games with in-app purchases (IAP) decreased by 3% to $1.16 billion, nearing figures from the first half of 2020. Over half of the revenue (57%) came from Google Play.
- Thailand was recognized as the largest market in Southeast Asia in terms of revenue, bringing in over $400 million, a 10% year-over-year growth.
- Pizza Ready! and Ojol The Game gained particular popularity in Southeast Asia. Thanks to these titles, the simulation genre reached 1.2 billion downloads (+11%), becoming the most downloaded genre among users.
- Strategy and RPGs remain the most lucrative genres in the region, accounting for 24% and 23% of total revenue, respectively.
- The segment of sports mobile games significantly increased its market share in Southeast Asia, with revenues growing by 39% over the period. Gamers most heavily invested in eFootball 2024 and EA Sports Mobile Soccer.
- Garena Free Fire maintained its leading position in download rankings in Southeast Asia, as well as globally. It shared the top three spots with Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Roblox. Sensor Tower specifically highlighted the success of Pizza Ready, noting its downloads increased nearly six-fold compared to last year. This success placed Pizza Ready eighth among the most downloaded games in the region for the half-year.
- The highest IAP revenue in the first half of the year was generated by Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, eFootball 2024, and Garena Free Fire.
