In early July, Pokémon GO celebrated its anniversary, marking 10 years since its launch. With a slight delay, the analytics company Sensor Tower decided to take a look at what the game has achieved over the years.

Pokémon GO

  • The main fact noticed by analysts is that by July 2026, Pokémon GO’s revenue exceeded $9 billion. This is solely from the App Store and Google Play, not accounting for other mobile stores, which means the total would be even higher.
  • Meanwhile, game downloads surpassed the 800 million mark.
  • The largest market for Pokémon GO in terms of both revenue and downloads has been the United States, where it generated $3.6 billion and was downloaded 145 million times. Japan ranks second in terms of revenue, contributing $2.4 billion.
  • Beyond the US and Japan, the top five most profitable countries for Pokémon GO include Germany, the United Kingdom, and Canada. The top five countries by downloads are as follows: the United States, Brazil, India, Mexico, and Indonesia.
  • Throughout the decade, Pokémon GO has held the top spot globally among location-based games in terms of the size of its monthly active audience. Sensor Tower did not specify the current size of this audience.
  • In the US, Pokémon GO is most popular among gamers aged 25-34, who make up 35% of the American audience. In Japan, the situation is slightly different; the largest age group for Pokémon GO consists of gamers aged 33-44 (30%).

It is worth noting that Pokémon GO was developed by Niantic. In the spring of 2025, the team behind the title, along with the entire gaming division of Niantic, was sold to Scopely, a subsidiary of the Saudi Arabian Sovereign Fund, for $3.5 billion.
