In an interview with IGN, head of Microsoft's gaming division Phil Spencer commented for the first time on the recent closure of four Bethesda studios, including Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin.

Spencer explained that he had not previously discussed this situation publicly because he was focused on the "teams and individuals." He needed to ensure that all those laid off would receive their proper severance and other compensations.

"I have repeatedly stated that I must run a sustainable business and ensure growth. This means that sometimes I have to make tough decisions. Decisions that, frankly speaking, I don't like, but someone has to make. We will continue moving forward. We will keep investing in the development of Xbox and building the best business we can," said Spencer.
