The German Game Association, together with Goldmedia, has published statistics on the German video game industry.

According to her:

At the end of May 2023, 908 gaming companies were operating in Germany. This is 15.5% more than in May 2022, and 46% more than in May 2020.

▪️450 companies — game development studios. Another 411 companies both develop and publish games. The remaining 47 companies are engaged only in publishing and marketing games.

At the end of May 2023, there were 11,992 employees in German studios and publishing houses, which is 7% more than in 2022.

In total, over 30 thousand specialists in Germany are connected with video games in one way or another. This number includes, for example, employees of gaming stores, university teachers and specialized courses, as well as journalists and officials.

According to the head of Game Felix Falk, gaming startups began to open actively in Germany after the authorities launched a game financing program. As part of it, studios can count on subsidies of up to 50% of the cost of developing projects. Recently, the program’s budget was cut, so, according to Falk, the growth of the German industry will slow down.
