The past few days have been notable for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 due to an increase in online presence via Steam. Although not a record, it reached a significant level.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
According to SteamDB, the online player count for the Steam version of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 began to rapidly increase on Friday, December 12. While it was at 17,200 players on Thursday, it surged to 39,900 on the following day, climbed to 50,600 on Saturday, and reached 56,900 on Sunday. This level of concurrent users had not been seen since early June.
How the online presence of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 changed on Steam over the past week
The spike in interest can be attributed to several factors:
- Firstly, the victory of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 at the 2025 The Game Awards ceremony. The title won nine categories, including "Game of the Year," "Best Indie Debut," and "Best Music";
- Secondly, the release of a major patch that introduced a new location, translations into several more languages, a photo mode, and many other enhancements;
- Thirdly, a 20% discount was applied. It’s worth noting that this discount began on December 6, prior to the online surge, but it likely contributed somewhat.
However, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is still far from its peak performance. In May, the game by the French studio Sandfall Interactive attracted 145,000 concurrent users on Steam. It is unlikely that the record will be broken in the coming days.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is also available on Epic Games Store and consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. With these platforms considered, its online numbers should be even higher, though the exact figures are unclear.
