Microsoft's gaming division will once again focus heavily on developing its console direction. As stated by XBOX CEO Asha Sharma, there is still room for growth.
Sharma outlined these plans during an employee meeting, the transcript of which was reviewed by Windows Central.
According to Windows Central, at the meeting, Sharma announced Microsoft's intention to invest more money in consoles. She explained that the "most valuable" audience is currently among console owners, and therefore, XBOX "cannot afford" to overlook them in favor of focusing on other platforms.
Nevertheless, there will be experiments. Sharma stated that the next generation of XBOX consoles will represent an entire family of devices. While the main product line will be dominated by the traditional home console, it will also be complemented by portable devices. Microsoft plans to produce one part of these devices itself, while partnering with others for the second part.
During the meeting, Sharma also mentioned the PC situation. She did not share detailed plans but noted that Microsoft will continue to actively develop Battle.net with Windows Store. According to the XBOX CEO, the Blizzard store is now almost on par with Steam in terms of user retention, and Windows Store is currently the most popular PC store in China. However, Sharma did not provide specific numbers.
