Amidst the layoffs happening at XBOX, the studio id Software lost many developers of the id Tech engine. Due to this, rumors began circulating that there were almost no people left to support the tool, but Microsoft dispelled them.

“Dozens of people in various locations are working on id Tech. Reports that there is only one person left in Texas [the headquarters of id Software, — ed. note] are not true,” stated a Microsoft representative in a comment to Windows Central.

Anonymous sources from Windows Central also confirm Microsoft's statements. According to them, id Software still has a "solid number" of id Tech engine experts. Apparently, there are enough in another studio too — Machine Games.

It is claimed that considering all of this, Microsoft does not plan to force both studios to abandon id Tech and switch, for example, to Unreal Engine — such rumors have also repeatedly arisen in recent days.

Recall, it was earlier reported that a total of 136 people were laid off from the Texas branch of id Software: 96 office employees and 40 remote workers. It's not exactly clear what percentage this represents of the studio's staff, but it is assumed to be about 70%.
