Bloomberg reports that companies are thinking about the possibility of transferring control over some of their cloud assets in the UK. The goal is to satisfy the local regulator opposed to the merger.
We are talking about the sale of “cloud rights” (most likely, we mean the sale of distribution rights through cloud services) for their games to third-party telecommunications, gaming and Internet companies.
The fact is that earlier the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) imposed two bans on Microsoft‘s deal to buy Activision Blizzard, considering that it harms competition in the cloud gaming market.
For example, according to the official position of the CMA, the appearance of Activision games in xCloud on an exclusive basis will limit competition in the emerging market of cloud video games.
Microsoft and Activision Blizzard can ignore the bans of the CMA, since the European Union approved the deal. However, in this case, Activision Blizzard may have to withdraw its business from the Foggy Albion.
