Employees of Ubisoft's Barcelona division were unable to avoid mass layoffs, reports the portal Insider Gaming.

The risk of layoffs at Ubisoft Barcelona became publicly known a month ago, but the studio hoped until the end to convince the management otherwise. To this end, developers even went on strike — they decided to protest every Tuesday and Thursday from June 30 to July 16. However, their efforts proved unsuccessful.
It is claimed that as part of the layoffs, 51 employees left Ubisoft Barcelona. This accounts for 28% of the division's staff.
In a conversation with Insider Gaming, former studio employees added that they had been fearing layoffs for quite some time. The concern arises from the fact that Ubisoft typically assigns new projects to developers long before the current one ends. However, the team in Barcelona, which had been expressing concerns since the summer of 2025 about not being assigned a new project, did not receive any new assignments.
Previously, Ubisoft announced plans to lay off 380 employees across the company. In addition to Ubisoft Barcelona, the layoffs also affected Ubisoft San Francisco and Ubisoft Montréal, while the studios Ubisoft Belgrade and Ubisoft Winnipeg were closed altogether.
