The former technical director of Oculus* tweeted a thread about PS VR2, which is due to be released this month. John Carmack said that despite the excellent technical characteristics, Sony‘s VR headset is unlikely to be very successful.
The main obstacle for the PS VR2 will be the price — Sony asks for $549 for one device. Carmack predicts that in the first three years, the VR headset will sell much better than the Quest Pro* at the time, but significantly worse than the Quest 2*.
However, Carmack admits that Sony can make good money on the PS VR2 if the audience likes the games for the device.
