The Russian edition of Izvestia found out that the cost of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X has fallen in Russian retail. The first one became possible to purchase in the range of 48-56 thousand rubles ($523-610 at the official exchange rate), and the second one at all for 40 thousand rubles ($ 436 at the official exchange rate).
The publication reminds that at the start of sales, the PlayStation 5 in Russia cost ₽ 47 thousand ($ 610 at the rate of November 2020), and the Xbox Series X — ₽45.5 thousand ($ 590 at the rate of November 2020).
The experts of Izvestia explain the cost reduction in different ways. There are two main versions. According to the first, it’s a matter of low demand (this version contradicts the positions of the trading network “M.Video-Eldorado” and digital retailer Ozon, who claim a significant increase in console sales in the country). According to the second version, the consoles began to arrive freely in Russia, and therefore there is no shortage anymore, and the market is full.
It should be noted that the reverse process takes place abroad in most regions. A year ago, Sony officially raised the cost of its console by 10% worldwide (with the exception of the USA). Microsoft has recently announced similar plans.
