In the digital store itch.io, not only indie games are sold, but also game assets. The platform’s administration has introduced a new requirement for creators of the latter — all assets created using generative AI must be tagged accordingly.

Now on itch.io, there is a special field on the project editing page asking whether neural networks were used in the work. If you check the "yes" box, the project will be assigned the AI Generated tag. If you reply "no," the No AI tag will be applied. All content creators, including game developers, are requested to answer this question, but it is mandatory only for asset creators.

The AI Generated tag is divided into four sub-tags depending on the AI’s application: for art (AI Generated Graphics), sound (AI Generated Sound), text and dialogues (AI Generated Text & Dialog), or code (AI Generated Code).

The administration of itch.io stated that developers have the right to know what assets they are purchasing, as it is important for the quality of their projects. They warned that generative assets without the required tag will no longer appear in the store.

Currently, there is a grace period for asset creators during which they can update information on resources already published on itch.io. After this period, moderators will begin searching for violators using user feedback.
