At the end of September, the European Commission decided to focus on microtransactions and announced the launch of "coordinated actions" against several companies that do not comply with guidelines on in-game purchases. Now, as part of this same initiative, Italy's antitrust regulator AGCM has reported the initiation of its investigation.

Diablo Immortal

The target of the investigation in Italy is Activision Blizzard. Alongside it, "other Microsoft subsidiaries" are under scrutiny, though the specific entities are not specified. It is likely referring to King and Mojang Studios, as they are listed among the companies under investigation by the European Commission, but this is not explicitly stated.

AGCM aims to determine whether the developers have engaged in actions "contrary to European consumer protection standards."

Notably, back in December 2025, AGCM had already initiated an investigation into Activision Blizzard. It concerned two specific games — Diablo Immortal and Call of Duty Mobile. At that time, the Italian regulator claimed that both projects had overly aggressive monetization, misleading UI design, and issues with parental controls. During the investigation, AGCM intended to confirm these observations and ensure that the practices employed violated the law.

Neither Activision Blizzard nor Microsoft has commented on the situation.
