The analytics company Sensor Tower reported on the state of the Japanese mobile gaming market for the first six months of 2024. We share the main findings.
Monster Strike
- The semi-annual revenue of the market with IAP amounted to $5.3 billion, which is a 17% decrease compared to the previous year. The decline is mainly due to the weak yen.
- At the same time, mobile game downloads in Japan increased by 2.5% to 320 million, with 55% of downloads coming from the App Store.
- The highest-grossing mobile game of the semester in the country was Monster Strike. From January to June 2024, it made $290 million from IAP, bringing the total revenue of Monster Strike in Japan to $11 billion since the game's inception.
- The top five best-selling games also included Uma Musume Pretty Derby, Puzzle & Dragons, Fate/Grand Order, and Honkai: Star Rail.
- The most downloaded mobile games in Japan for the semester were Last War: Survival, Royal Match, Fatgoose Gym!, Legend of Mushroom, and Block Blast.
- Bandai Namco Entertainment became the largest mobile publisher in terms of revenue in Japan, while Line Corporation led in downloads.
