Australian MPs continue to speak out against gambling video games. This time they suggested assigning a rating of 15+ to games that have paid loot boxes, and a rating of 18+ to all other games with gambling mechanics.

According to the authors of the initiative, labeling will clearly show that such games are not suitable for children, and will protect “the most vulnerable audience from the harm caused by gambling.”

It is not the first year in Australia that they have been trying to fight gambling video games. The authorities are particularly active in criticizing projects with loot boxes. Back in 2018, the country‘s Environment and Communications Commission recommended banning their sale to minors.
