The German association GAME released a report dedicated to the state of the German gaming market last year. We have highlighted the main points from the document.

In compiling the report, GAME relied on data from analytical companies YouGov and Sensor Tower.

  • According to GAME, the German gaming market saw slight growth in 2025 compared to the previous year. Its revenue increased by 4% to reach €9.38 billion. However, it is far from the records of 2023, when the amount was nearly €10 billion.
  • Revenue directly from games amounted to €4.95 billion, which is 1% less compared to 2024.
  • Meanwhile, sales of paid games fell by 13% to €807 million, while the volume of in-game purchases rose by 1% to €4.14 billion.
  • Sales of consoles, accessories, and other gaming "hardware" surged in Germany by 12%, reaching €3.4 billion. The successful release of the Nintendo Switch 2 and some other new products like the portable PC ROG Xbox Ally contributed to this growth.
  • Revenue from gaming online services in Germany last year reached €1.03 billion for the first time, showing a 7% increase. GAME includes cloud gaming platforms and Game Pass and PlayStation Plus subscriptions in these services.
  • It is worth noting that in recent years, Germany has generally prospered with gaming online services. According to GAME, over six years, their revenue has more than doubled—back in 2019, it amounted to €461 million.

"Data on the German gaming market shows how significantly gaming habits are changing in Germany: revenue from game sales is noticeably declining, while income from in-game purchases continues to grow moderately despite already high figures. Some games have turned into genuine long-lasting hits: over the years, they have gathered a large audience that regularly receives new content and remains loyal to their game. Moreover, new games regularly appear in the libraries of many online services, which also leads to a drop in sales of individual titles," concluded the head of GAME Felix Falk.
