Recently, Valve opened a special section on Steam where each user can view their gaming statistics for 2024. Some of the data in this section is compared with the entire Steam community.
For example, Valve noted that on average, Steam users launched only four games over the year and earned 13 achievements. The median number of consecutive gaming days was six.
Additionally, it was reported how the total gaming time of gamers on the platform was distributed in 2024:
- 2024 releases accounted for 15% of all Steam users' gaming time for the year;
- releases from 2017-2023 accounted for 47% of all Steam users' gaming time for the year;
- “classic games” released eight or more years ago accounted for 37% of all Steam users' gaming time for the year.
As noted by the portal PC Gamer, this year Steam users played new releases more actively than in 2023, but less actively than in 2022. In 2023, new releases accounted for 9% of the total gaming time, while in 2022, it was 17%. This increase compared to last year is partly attributed by journalists to the release of popular live-service games like Helldivers 2 and single-player hits like Black Myth: Wukong.
It is noteworthy that, according to data from the SteamDB service, 18,597 new games were released on Steam in 2024. This is 29.9% more than in 2023.
